ENGLISH 1010
In an Unsurprising Move
English 1010 - Summer 2021
In English 1010 I was challenged to think outside the box, get wild and creative, all while being an effective communicator and team player. I was challenged to make my writing work together as a team, too. Each element must support and play nice with the other elements. I have always enjoyed writing and make it a daily practice much like mindfulness, yoga, or math require daily check-ins to remain strong and competent. I was thrilled at the end of this class to have been challenged to go above and beyond with Prof Hayes. He was supportive but the rubric was intense. I’ve always loved an English class, and this was no exception.
General Education Learning Outcomes:
Students Communicate Effectively - In my portfolio project, I was challenged to think of the ways in which the pandemic world effected my life. Who am I now that we are living in that world, and what does it mean?
Students Think Critically and Creatively - Weekly “mindwalks” started with a prompt and ended with me being totally engrossed in the process. I was challenged to put my thoughts onto the page and make them as clear as I could, while actively seeking collaborative feedback and asking the kinds of questions that would not only spark new ideas but also allow for critical thinking about the feedback I was given.
